    • God knew that Obama would be in office right now. We especially as Christians should never pray for God to kill someone. I may not agree with everything a leader does, but we should always be praying for our leadership in our country, church’s, jobs, etc.

  3. I found you because you shared a thought on my pastor, Sam Barrington’s blog. Do you ever wish your first name might have been “Ted” or “Tim” or “Tom” ? Nice sharing with you. I think I’ll go get a Vanilla Latte and dream about a warm summer day in the first row of the Wrigley Field bleachers. Merry Christmas.

  4. My full-name, Kerry Rex Butts, is what it is. Never thought about after accepting that.

  5. If I have to explain it… well. What I was referring to was if your name started with a “T”, you could be “T” Rex Butts, as in the dinosaur. Thought maybe you’d get it. Nothing wrong with Kerry. Sorry.

  6. Hi Rex,
I read an interesting comment of yours while researching the one cup, one loaf, etc. movement within the churches of Christ. You mentioned some notes from a class in Theological Hermeneutics you took at Harding. Any chance of getting a copy? They sound very interesting.

  7. Jim,

Unfortunately, I cannot pass on these notes without my professors permission. However, if you head over to his blog (http://johnmarkhicks.wordpress.com) and poke around, especially under this link (http://johnmarkhicks.wordpress.com/category/hermeneutics) then you will find much of his work on hermeneutics.

Thanks for stopping by the blog.

    Grace and peace,

    • I want to finish my ohtught here. If God treated us fairly Jesus would have never died on the cross. and we would have never been offered salvation. I praise God that He loves me, He never fails me and He goes to plan B and on. Look ho w He blessed Israel, they sinned and went away from God countless times, but He was faithful and loved them any way. Romans 5:8 But God commended His love toward us, in that while we were sinners Christ died for us. Praise be to God!

  8. Sherly Waterman

Hi My name is Sherly. I had an opportunity to watch Francis Chang videos and was very impressed and encouraged with how God revealed Himself to Him through His Word. God is always looking for true worshipers, those who are or desire to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. I come from a denominational background, and I accepted Jesus into my heart about three times because the sinners prayer did not cut me to the heart. I believe the Lord works in so many ways, and as humans we can not put Jehova, EloHim, The Creator of the universe inside a box, theology, or formulas. The FAITH of the centurion Luke 7 was simple, the FAITH of Mary was simple, the FAITH of Abraham was simple, and the FAITH of so many examples in the bible Hebrews 11 was simple, they trusted and obey the Lord, What about you today? Where is your Faith today? to those who complicate themselves with so much theology, and arguments about who is right and who is wrong about BAPTISM AND CONVERSION, The Lord wants to know what are you doing today with your life? How are you applying HIS precious word? In the end that is what really matters, God wants our hearts to be pure in a daily basis, God desires a broken spirit and a broken heart Psalms 51:17. He desires for us to know Him and to walk humbly with Him. He desires MERCY,COMPASSION, and LOVE. How are we doing in these areas of our lives? I am basically sharing what the Lord is been teaching me in the last couple of years. Let’s remember Matt 7:1-6, so that we do not fall into the the bait of satan once again. let’s try to accept oneanother as Paul tells our fellow Jews and Romans in Rom 14:1, and finally let’s love oneanother 1Cor. 13 for when we LOVE God lives in us.
I have no idea how to get in touch with Francis and his wife, if anyone knows please let me know.

    Love in Christ,

    Sherly

    • Sherly,

Thanks for stopping by the blog and leaving a comment. Thank you also for your faith and love of God. I’m not sure how to get in touch with Francis Chan, so I can’t help you with that one.

      Grace and Peace,

      Rex

  9. K. Rex, excellent blog site! Your last name intrigues me because it is my wife’s maiden name. She is a native of Jonesboro, AR. Any possibilities that you guys are related?

I was the first full time youth minister at Barrow Road (Little Rock) in the 80s and part of what we affectionately called “The Little Rock Six” (six full time yms in churches of Christ there). Was in youth ministry for nearly 2 decades and preaching ministry for 12 years. I see you had John Mark HIcks as a prof. He is a great guy–we’ve visited though I doubt he’d know me.

Keep up the writing! If you have any interest, my blog is http://coffeecuptheology.wordpress.com/, drop by for a shout!

    • Darryl,

Thanks for stopping by the blog. I’ll take a stroll over on your blog.

What is your wife’s first name? I ask that because it is an interesting and small world. I was born in Jonesboro, AR and have a lot of Butts’ family in the Jonesboro area. Some of my family attend the Bono CoC in Bono, AR. I had an Aunt and Uncle that ran a small grocery store in Sedgwick in addition to farming rice but they both have passed away. My grandma and grandpa Butts lived on Hwy 91 between Egypt and Walnut Ridge when they were still alive and were members of the Oak Grove CoC (a country church that may no longer be in existence).

  11. Tawanda Mwadiya

How best can we evangelise with limited resorces?

    • Tawanda,

That is a good question, so thanks for stopping by my blog and asking. I serve as the Preacher/Minister in a small church with limited resources, so this is a valid concern for me as well.

The first thoughts I have is that as Christians, we have the gospel story of Jesus and we have the power of the Holy Spirit to be witnesses of that Jesus story (Acts 1:8). I believe this is the key? What that involves though would take some time to answer. This Sunday I am actually beginning a sermon series titled “The Church: Christ Convicted, Spirit Fueled Mission Living” from Acts 1-11 and each sermon will be posted on this blog on the Columbia Church of Christ Sermons page. Feel free to listen in to my sermons as I will be giving some answer to the very question you have raised.

      Grace and Peace,

      Rex
