Kingdom Seeking

About

I am a Christian.  That is to say that I am trying to live my life the way Jesus, the Messiah, lived his life.  It is a learning journey filled with amazement and challenge, suffering and hope, and a whole lot of grace — which we all need.

Beyond this, I am a husband and father.  I have been married to Laura since August of 1998.  We have three children, Kenny (deceased), Caryn, and Jared.

My vocation is Christian mission and ministry.  For the last five years I have served as a minister with Churches of Christ.

Most importantly, I live by the belief that our world was created good by God.  But something went wrong, which the Bible calls sin.  Basically it amounts to all the various ways that people, including myself, can mess up the intentions of God’s creation.  The good news is that God is restoring his created intent to this world in Jesus who calls us to live under God’s kingdom.  That is what I seek to do and what I seek to help others to do.  Thus, the name of this blog is “Kingdom Seeking.”

Besides my faith and family, the things I enjoy involve normally involve the outdoors, coffee shops, used bookstores, music, and traveling.  I also am an avid Chicago Cubs fan, which at times may make me a person to be pittied.

I found you because you shared a thought on my pastor, Sam Barrington’s blog. Do you ever wish your first name might have been “Ted” or “Tim” or “Tom” ? Nice sharing with you. I think I’ll go get a Vanilla Latte and dream about a warm summer day in the first row of the Wrigley Field bleachers. Merry Christmas.

My full-name, Kerry Rex Butts, is what it is. Never thought about after accepting that.

If I have to explain it… well. What I was referring to was if your name started with a “T”, you could be “T” Rex Butts, as in the dinosaur. Thought maybe you’d get it. Nothing wrong with Kerry. Sorry.

    Hi Rex,
I read an interesting comment of yours while researching the one cup, one loaf, etc. movement within the churches of Christ. You mentioned some notes from a class in Theological Hermeneutics you took at Harding. Any chance of getting a copy? They sound very interesting.

    Jim,

Unfortunately, I cannot pass on these notes without my professors permission. However, if you head over to his blog (http://johnmarkhicks.wordpress.com) and poke around, especially under this link (http://johnmarkhicks.wordpress.com/category/hermeneutics) then you will find much of his work on hermeneutics.

Thanks for stopping by the blog.

    Grace and peace,

    Rex
