I came accros this great quote from Herman Melville regarding criticism of the poor. I struck me as a wise observation, so I thought I would share it with you all. Here is what Melville said:
“Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed.”

That’s neat. I have to say that; I’m well-housed, warmed, and fed.

Yeah … and I’ve heard some poor people really lambast people like you and me.

To Wes:
My response to you is from a book I read by John Buchan entitled “A Pilgrim’s Way”. “That man is miserable John, misery knows no manners.”

No, no they didn’t leave any comments or anything, but when you do that search on Google it links to my post on Religulous.

I just realized what you were asking – let me clarify: no one ‘wrote you up’ for being a false teacher or anything like that.
Someone just did a search on Google of “rex butts false teaching church of christ” and the words they used led them to my post on Religulous.
I just thought it was funny someone was searching for that.

I love the way Jesus Christ set an example of how for us to do ministry. Notice in all the gospels that Jesus met the needs of individuals before he proclaimed the good news of God’s love, grace, and heavenly kingdom. He healed, fed, forgave, saved lives of sinners. Wonderful example for us as a church in the 21st century to live by as well.

Preacherman,
Exactly!!! Now if we could learn to measure our churches and our lives by the life of Jesus rather than the false idols we prop up (such as the supposed church pattern in the NT or the so-called “American Traditional Values”) then we would see change…meaningful change.
Grace and peace,
Rex

Yeah… sometimes it sure seems like we have majored in the minors and minored in the majors.
